Mr Yakovlev proposed to rebury the remains of Empress Maria Fyodorovna, wife of Emperor Alexander III, at the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in the Sts. Peter and Paul Fortress.
Dowager Empress Maria Fyodorovna left Russia after her son, Nicholas II, had abdicated. She was buried in Denmark in 1928. Duke Nikolai Romanov, head of the Romanov family, asked the St. Petersburg Governor to rebury the empress’ remains at the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral, a sepulcher for the Romanov dynasty.
