The two leaders discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic and political spheres, and the Transdnestr problem.

After the meeting, the Russian and Moldovan Presidents signed a bilateral treaty on friendship and cooperation. The parties supported the political settlement of the Transdnestr problem with respect to Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The treaty confirms the right of the Russian and Moldovan citizens to speak their native language and to choose freely the language for communication and education. Taking into account the role and importance of the Russian language, the Moldovan party, according to the national legislation, was obliged to create conditions for teaching in Russian in Moldova.

Russia and Moldova documented the need to develop equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in politics, economy, trade, transport, defence, energy, environmental protection, science, engineering, culture, health, humanitarian sphere, etc.

A separate article of the treaty is dedicated to the fight against international and organised crime, terrorism, illegal trafficking of drugs, armaments, toxic and radioactive materials, money laundering, trafficking, including illegal export of cultural values. Russia and Moldavia agreed to cooperate in the fight against these crimes.

After the meeting, the two leaders made several statements for the press and answered journalists’ questions.
