At the beginning of the meeting, Mr Putin pointed to the importance of contacts between the two countries now that Qatar was holding the rotating presidency of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
In opening expanded negotiations, Mr Putin noted that bilateral relations between Russia and Qatar should be made more meaningful and that Russia looked forward to the establishment of direct, trusting and businesslike relations, including after the first official visit by a head of Qatar to Russia.
