The first session of the leaders of APEC member countries has come to an end

The first working day of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit ended with a colourful fireworks display.

As a result of the discussions APEC leaders adopted a joint statement on global climate change. The document's official name is the Sydney Declaration on Climate Change, Energy Security and Clean Development. Summit Chairman and Prime Minister of Australia John Howard announced this decision to adopt a statement.

Leaders of Australia, Brunei, Vietnam, Xian gang (Hong Kong), Indonesia, Canada, China, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the United States, Thailand, the Philippines, Chile , Taiwan and Japan participated in the APEC forum.

During the forum Vladimir Putin talked with a number of state leaders. In particular, President Putin continued his discussion with U.S. President George W. Bush. The Russian head of state also met with the President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, President of Peru Alan Garcia Perez, and President of South Korea Roh Moo Hyun.

The first working day of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit ended with a concert in the Sydney Opera House and a colourful fireworks display.
