During the meeting President Putin stressed that Russia had always supported Afghanistan’s legitimate government and was ready to do all it could to help rebuild the country’s economy and solve the urgent humanitarian and social problems.
President Putin expressed hope that the upcoming visit to Russia by the Head of the Afghan Interim Government, Hamid Karzai, would be successful and fruitful.
For his part, Mohamad Fahim pointed out that Russia and Afghanistan have a long positive history of relations. The first deputy head of the Afghan interim government thanked the Russian government and the Russian people for the assistance in the fight against the Taliban and international terrorism. Mr Fahim expressed confidence that Russia would play an active positive role in rebuilding all spheres of life in Afghanistan.
