The message said, in part:
“Her Majesty was well-known in Russia, and her contribution to the joint efforts made by the anti-Nazi coalition during WWII and in consolidating the relations between the Allies were highly appreciated here. Her Majesty enjoyed sincere love and respect from the British, as well as from millions of people around the world.
“Please accept my sincere condolences on the tragic loss that has fallen on you personally, as well as on the rest of the British royal family and the whole of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.”
The Russian leader also expressed his condolences to the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.
