Mr Putin and Mr Zapatero discussed various aspects of bilateral relations, including trade and economic cooperation and cooperation in areas such as fighting organised crime, drugs trafficking and money laundering, natural disaster prevention and disaster relief. The two leaders also looked at prospects for developing ties in the areas of culture, education and tourism.
Later, in the presence of the two leaders, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, launching the work of the Russian-Spanish Civil Society Dialogue Forum, which aims to provide public representatives from both countries with a forum for discussing issues of mutual interest.
Following their talks, Mr Putin and Mr Zapatero made press statements and answered questions from the media.
