The meeting discussed issues directly related to preparations for the Olympics and also other matters going beyond the area of top-level sports.
Mr Putin called for the completion of Olympic sports facilities in Sochi by 2012 so as to give athletes the opportunity to test themselves before the Olympics during major international-level competitions.
The President asked the Council to pay close attention to mass sport in Russia, in particular, physical education.
Closing the meeting, Mr Putin stressed that the Sochi Olympics project is not being carried out in order to satisfy national ambitions, but is needed to develop the country.
