Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev held talks before the forum began. The two leaders discussed cooperation in the Caspian Sea, the space sector, nuclear energy, and the transport sector. This was Mr Putin and Mr Nazarbayev’s fifth meeting this year.
The two Presidents addressed the Forum and took part in its plenary session. The Forum, with the heads of ministries and agencies from the two countries taking part, examined a range of issues, including environmental protection in the trans-border Ural River basin area and organising protection of the Russian-Kazakh border.
The two Presidents also visited an exhibition of border protection equipment, which presented the latest developments in this area, including instruments for controlling the flows of people and vehicles along transport routes and inspection equipment and systems for customs and border checks and inspections.
The Forum saw the signing of a number of new bilateral economic cooperation agreements.
