At the Interstate Council Meeting of the Eurasian Economic Community.

The summit focused on the issue of building a customs union between Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia within the EurAsEC framework. Following a discussion on this issue, participants signed several high priority documents that will constitute part of the legal framework of the customs union.

A total of 17 documents designed to develop this integration association were signed at the EurAsEC summit.

These documents include the draft concept for the efficient use of water and energy resources in Central Asia. At the President of Russia's initiative, participants decided to employ independent experts to work on this issue.

Summit participants also adopted a draft project for creating a common energy market for EurAsEC member states. They resolved the issue of the accession of EurAsEC member states to international conventions and treaties in the field of transport and communications. They decided to grant observer status to the Interstate Aviation Committee at the EurAsEC. Participants also adopted the draft budget of the EurAsEC Interstate Council, entitled ”On the 2008 Budget Policy“.

The next EurAsEC summit is tentatively scheduled for May-June 2008 and will be held in Moscow.
