During the State Council meeting in Ufa the President declared that pensions are unconscionably low. Further pension indexation was carried out in October 2007 and in accordance with current plans the average pension would increase to 285 rubles in 2008.
The head of state ordered the government cabinet to raise the base amount of pensions to a minimum of 300 rubles as of 1 December 2007.
Vladimir Putin called on participants to react more promptly to price fluctuations on the world market, and to use all the instruments the cabinet has at its disposal to do so. Along with this the cabinet's task consists in defending people, first and foremost citizens with low incomes and pensioners, from increases in prices.
