“Farming, agriculture and grain production have always been and remain among the strategic sectors of many national economies,” reads the President of Russia's message. “The well-being of millions of people around the world and food security of countries and continents depends on their stable and effective development.
Today, one of our priorities is to ensure that all segments of the population get access to food, something which requires the modernisation of international monitoring institutions and a rapid response to fluctuations in global grain prices. It is important to encourage innovative development in grain production and investment in the agricultural sector, and to create conditions for increasing international trade in grain based on the principles of fair competition. Naturally, we must work together to offset the negative impact that the global economic crisis has had on the industry.
I am confident that the proposals and recommendations elaborated during the Forum will help strengthen business contacts and the implementation of new international projects.”
