The meeting took place in the new building of Senate and Synod where the Constitutional Court (CC) will eventually move. The head of state signed a decree which declares that the date on which the CC will begin its constitutional proceedings in St Petersburg will be 21 May 2008. A representative body will operate in Moscow. An interdepartamental working group designed to oversee the CC's move to St Petersburg is being headed by first Deputy Prime Minister Dmitrii Medvedev.
Earlier today Mr Putin met with builders and renovators of the CC's buildings in St Petersburg. The Senate and Synod building are in Dekabrists' Square and were built in 1829–34. The construction has been carried out under the direction of the Architect A. Shtauberg as part of the Carlo Rossi project. The restoration of the buildings that are damaged started in October 2006.
