The main topics discussed at the Forum include ensuring global food security, long-term forecasting of the grain and food prices, and national and international programmes to support the agricultural sector.
The Forum was attended by 1,500 participants from 53 countries including the agriculture ministers of Brazil, Germany, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, heads of international organisations, financial institutions, and national and international associations of farmers.
The idea of holding the first World Grain Forum was put forward by Dmitry Medvedev at the G8 summit in Japan in summer of 2008.
