As he opened the session the head of state emphasized that creating new sport and recreational zones in the Sochi region is in both Russia's long-term interests and those of its citizens, namely by creating the necessary conditions for engaging in physical education and sport, recreation and improving the nation's health.
The President emphasized that when preparing the Olympics it is necessary to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities. Vladimir Putin believes that constructions in Sochi need to take all available international experience into account but also integrate the newest certified social standards.
Regional Development Minister Dmitrii Kozak, head of Rossport Viacheslav Fetisov, and Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Zhukov all made presentations at the Council session.
Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksei Kudrin, a number of federal ministers, President of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachev, General Director of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitrii Chernyshenko, head of the public corporation Olimpstroi Semyon Vainshtok, the heads of Russian sports federations including athletics, alpine sports and snowboarding, ski racing, figure skating, sledding, and the Skaters' Union all took part in the session.
