Mr Putin congratulated Mr Mubarak on his eightieth birthday, wishing him long life and continued success in his work as head of state.
The two Presidents assessed highly the progress made in developing bilateral relations and discussed different aspects of cooperation currently on the agenda, in particular following the agreements reached during Mr Mubarak’s recent visit to Russia.
The conversation took place at Russia’s initiative.
Mr Putin also sent Mr Mubarak a message of congratulations.
The message reads, in particular:
“You are justifiably considered one of the most influential and authoritative politicians not only in the Middle East but throughout the whole world. Many memorable pages in modern history are associated with your name. And, of course, there are Egypt’s considerable achievements in economic and social development and in strengthening its international position. You are tireless in your efforts to personally facilitate resolution of the region’s many problems and you come forward with needed and constructive initiatives.
I am very pleased to see that the traditionally friendly ties between Russia and Egypt have gained renewed vigour of late, becoming more substantial and producing more results in the foreign policy area and in business and humanitarian cooperation. I see in this your great personal contribution.
I have warm recollections of our recent meeting in Moscow. I am sure that the agreements reached during that meeting will help us to continue to build and strengthen cooperation between our countries in all different areas, bringing swift and tangible results”.
