A Russian-Uzbekistani summit took place in Tashkent on January 23. Mr Medvedev and President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov discussed Russia and Uzbekistan’s cooperation on ensuring security in the Central Asian region and overcoming the world economic crisis.
The talks concluded with the signing of a Joint Communique on the results of the Russian President’s state visit to Uzbekistan, an intergovernmental agreement on conditions for the location and servicing of the two countries’ diplomatic missions, and a programme for cooperation between the two countries’ foreign ministries in 2009.
Mr Medvedev also visited the Tashkent University of World Economy and Diplomacy, where he received the robes and degree of Doctor Honoris Causa.
The previous day, the Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan visited Samarkand.
