The leaders of the CSTO member states approved the decision to establish the Collective Rapid Reaction Force (CRRF). The CRRF’s purpose is to counter military aggression and carry out special operations as part of the efforts to combat terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking, and also to take part in disaster relief work, Dmitry Medvedev explained, saying that Russia would contribute a division and a brigade to the Force.
The EurAsEC summit approved a decision to establish the EurAsEC Anti-Crisis Fund with funds of $10 billion. Mr Medvedev said this fund will help member states to overcome the impact of the global financial crisis and ensure economic stability.
A decision was also approved to establish an international centre for advanced technology. Mr Medvedev said that this centre’s work would boost the EurAsEC countries’ competitive advantages. The intellectual component has always been one of the key factors contributing to development in the EurAsEC area, Mr Medvedev said, and this is something the organization should build on and develop now.
