Mr Shoigu told the President that the accident at the power plant has not damaged the dam, but all ten generating units at the plant have been halted.
Mr Shmatko reported on the measures Energy Ministry specialists are taking to deal with the accident and get Siberia’s energy system operating as normal once more.
The President instructed the two ministers to fly to Abakan to oversee the cleanup effort at the power station. Mr Medvedev also asked Mr Shoigu and Mr Shmatko to report to him on the cleanup work, the restoration of normal power supply to the region’s population and industry, and the work to bring the power station’s production units back on line.
The two ministers also received the instruction to provide all possible help to the families of those killed and to those injured in the accident.
The accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Station took place on August 17 at 8:13 local time.
