Mr Medvedev said he was happy with the results of his visit to Mongolia, and noted the need to develop the two countries’ relations more intensively.
The President also spoke about security in the North Caucasus republics and the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Mr Medvedev said that the decision to recognise Abkhazia’s and South Ossetia’s independence cannot be reversed. It is an absolutely justified decision and legitimate in terms of international law.
The President said he does not think the law enforcement and security agencies are doing enough to eradicate the terrorist and extremist threat in the North Caucasus, but stressed that the situation does not call for extraordinary measures. Instead, the President said, the law enforcement agencies are now putting in place new organisational methods of fighting crime, including terrorism, in the Caucasus.
