President of China XI JINPING (retranslated): I am happy to meet with you, President Putin, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
You watched the final match of the Football World Cup and attended the closing ceremony. Russia has taken on the baton to host the 2018 Football World Cup and this serves as another piece of evidence of Russia’s increased overall power and prestige in the world. Regardless of whether China will make it into the final round, we will support Russia in various ways in successfully holding this event.
Two months ago, you visited China and participated in the CICA summit in Shanghai. We achieved a whole set of historical agreements on further developing bilateral relations and broadening cooperation in various areas. Together, we brought our relations to a new stage of development.
Over the last two months, in accordance with our agreements reached in Shanghai, the two nations’ governments, central and local agencies have had intensive contacts and consultations. There have been shifts in nearly all collaboration projects; I am highly satisfied by this.
I tell everyone that in our collaboration with Russia, it is important to work in the spirit of “said and done.” Your side has given an even more positive signal: at a major meeting of ambassadors, you called for the all-around enhancement of Russian-Chinese relations. I hope the two sides will fully carry out our agreements – striking the iron while it’s hot, so to speak.
President of Russia VLADIMIR PUTIN: Mr President, my friend, and Chinese friends,
I am very happy to see you – this time, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
I was recalling my visit to China. I want to once again thank you for your warm welcome and the enormous work that we carried out together, reaching some very concrete, important, major agreements.
You know, I want to say that I liked going to China, particularly with such results. If you do not mind, I would like to come again in November, this time to work within the framework of APEC, whose summit China will be hosting.
We have an enormous volume of cooperation; it is growing from year to year and our cooperation is gaining speed in nearly all areas. We are working very intensively and feel your personal attention toward the development of Russian-Chinese relations and reaching results. I am absolutely certain that the plans that we made together will all be implemented and this will take our relations to an even higher level.
I am happy for the opportunity to meet with you and with all of our colleagues and friends, to talk about what else we will need to do in the near future in order to intensify our dialogue and meet the objectives we have set for ourselves.
Thank you very much.
