Dmitry Medvedev affirmed this position in an address at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The main priority today is to resume Palestinian-Israeli negotiations as swiftly as possible. The Moscow conference on the Middle East will be an important step in achieving this goal, the President said.
Mr Medvedev called on all parties involved to respect their commitments with regard to fighting terrorism and violence and to renounce all unilateral action, including further growth of Israel’s settlements, saying that this is essential for achieving a final settlement.
The President called for a respectful attitude towards the Arab countries’ desire to combine modern development with their own national and religious traditions.
