The two leaders discussed the crisis situation in Ukraine. Both sides gave a positive assessment of the agreements reached at the meeting of the Minsk contact group on a complete ceasefire in southeast Ukraine, and expressed readiness to give full support to the peace process.
Vladimir Putin and Ban Ki-moon exchanged views on the international community’s joint efforts to fight the Islamic State group. The Russian side stressed that airstrikes against the IS terrorist bases in Syria should not be carried out without the consent from the Syrian government.
The two politicians also touched on the most recent developments in Afghanistan, stressing the importance of working together to counter the threat of illegal drugs.
