Vladimir Putin took part via linkup in Gazprom’s launch of field No. 1 at Bovanenkovo, the largest gas field on Yamal Peninsula.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin (addressing Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller Miller Alexei Miller AlexeiGazprom CEO ): Mr Miller, good afternoon!

I want to congratulate you and the entire team on today's momentous event – the launch of a new gas production capacity at Bovanenkovo field, one of the most important and largest gas fields in the country.

The launch of the new field today will make it possible to increase gas production substantially – by 50 percent, to 90 billion cubic metres of gas per year.

Such a rise in gas production will certainly enhance energy security not only in the region but also in the whole country, and will allow, if necessary, to increase the export of our energy resources to consumers.

I know that over the past two years a great deal of work was done in very harsh climatic conditions to bring the first fields into operation, build hundreds of kilometres of pipelines and pumping stations.

All of these facilities involve the use of high technology, new cutting edge technological solutions. This is a major achievement of your large team of engineers, workers and production managers.

There is still a great deal that needs to be done to further develop Yamal, and I wish you every success!

<…>

Mr Miller, once again I congratulate you, all Gazprom employees, and everyone who worked on the task whose successful completion you have just reported. This major effort has led to a good result. I wish you continued success in the coming year.

Happy New 2015! Give my best wishes to all your staff. Thank you. All the best.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller: Thank you.

Mr President, I propose we view a brief film on the process of developing the Bovanenkovo deposit.

Vladimir Putin: Very well.

(Film is screened.)

Alexei Miller: Mr President, today we are launching a new gas field in Bovanenkovo with a capacity of 30 billion cubic metres per year. In two years of production at the Bovanenkovo deposit, we have extracted 68 billion cubic metres of gas. Today, we are increasing our extraction capacity to 90 billion cubic metres per year.

The cutting edge Russian technologies implemented at the Bovanenkovo gas field have proven to be effective. The wells built by 5th generation Russian drilling rigs are operating in stable mode.

The Bovanenkovo-Ukhta gas pipeline system was custom built and it is operating perfectly. The gas pumped into this pipeline system is allowing us to create the capacity to export gas to China from our main gas production centre, the Nadym-Pur-Taz region. Thus, gas supplies to China will be carried out not only via the eastern route, but also via the new western supply route from Western Siberia.

All industrial facilities at the Bovanenkovo gas field are operated in accordance with strict environmental requirements, following the most modern global standards.

The experience we have gained in developing the Bovanenkovo field is experience of working in polar latitudes. This experience is unique – no other nation in the world has it. And this will allow us to gradually increase gas extraction in the Arctic in the future.

In four years, the gas extraction level here, in Bovanenkovo, will reach 115 billion cubic metres of gas per year, and in the long term, it will increase to 140 billion.

Mr President, all technological communications in the Bovanenkovo gas field are under operational pressure. I am requesting your order to begin pumping gas into the main gas pipeline.

Vladimir Putin: Go ahead.

Alexei Miller: Mr President, the new gas field at the Boanenkovo deposit has been put into operation. The gas is entering the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta gas pipelines.
