The President of Russia wished Mr Nazarbayev a happy birthday, as well as health and continued success in his government work.
During the conversation, the presidents also exchanged views on current international issues and discussed plans for future communication.
Earlier in the day, Mr Medvedev sent the President of Kazakhstan a congratulatory message which reads, in part:
“Modern Kazakhstan has made significant achievements in socioeconomic development and state construction, and much of this is due to your coherent policies. You have gained a well-deserved authoritative standing in regional and international affairs.
I would like to particularly mention your views on the development of Russian-Kazakhstani ties, which have become a true example of strategic partnership and unity. This close bilateral cooperation is an important factor in strengthening integration processes within the CIS, and helps resolve problems stemming from the global economic crisis.”
