The message reads, in part:
“The problems you are discussing are exceedingly vital. An entire range of factors affects the state of today’s security. Among them are a society’s economic and social development, the efficacy of multilateral partnership, the quality of citizens’ lives, and the safeguards that protect their rights and freedoms.
In this new, 21st century, it is imperative to join the global community’s efforts to counteract security threats. This is not limited to the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and organised crime. A wonderful example of effective security-related collaboration is the international assistance offered to Russia in fighting the forest fires caused by extreme droughts. We are grateful to everyone who came to our aid, and for our part, we are always ready to help nations suffering from natural or man-made disasters.
I hope that the ideas and proposals you discuss during your first meeting will help in the search for joint mechanisms and solutions in regional and global security, and will promote the development of international cooperation in this sphere.”
The meeting in Sochi brings together representatives from 43 countries and the United Nations.
