The President inspected the weapons and military equipment of the airborne troops.
Then the Commander-in-Chief went to observation desk to overview tactical exercise performed by a battalion of the 7th airborne assault division. A range of military hardware was involved in the exercise, including aircraft, helicopters and tanks.
Dmitry Medvedev visited the base where an airborne assault regiment is permanently deployed and laid flowers at the monument to the regiment's servicemen fallen in battle, and then inspected different areas of the base such as the mess hall and the paratroopers' sleeping quarters. The regiment's commander briefed Mr Medvedev on the conditions ensured for the servicemen.
The 7th airborne assault (mountain) division is deployed in Novorossiysk. In early July, an airborne assault regiment from Novorossiysk successfully prevented armed gangs from infiltrating Russian territory by sea as part of the Caucasus 2009 strategic exercise.
