The message reads, in part:
“Your agenda covers various aspects of implementing the long-term strategy for the Far East and Baikal regions’ social and economic development. Among the issues you will be addressing are spreading the use of advanced technology, modernising the transport infrastructure, encouraging investment, and expanding international cooperation.
The Far East region has strategic importance for Russia and possesses great industrial potential and abundant natural resources. It is important today to put them to the best possible use. Business ties with our neighbours among the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region countries will play a big part in this.
I am confident that the recommendations that emerge from your discussions will help us to continue developing Russia’s eastern regions and build on our multifaceted regional and trans-border cooperation.”
The Fifth Far Eastern International Economic Forum is taking place in Khabarovsk on October 4–5, 2011.
