Mr Medvedev visited the Novaya Ivanovskaya Manufaktura factory workshops, learned about the production process and spoke with staff. The factory, founded in 1840, is one of the oldest textile factories in Ivanovo Region. It is one of the leading enterprises in Russia’s textile industry today.
The Textil-Profi-Ivanovo inter-regional centre is one of Russia’s biggest textile distribution centres, where textiles producers can buy everything they need from production equipment and raw materials to packaging.
Mr Medvedev then met with Governor of Ivanovo Region Mikhail Men. Historically, the region is Russia’s textile industry centre, and the President noted that it is not by chance that the forthcoming State Council Presidium meeting on the sector is taking place in Ivanovo.
Mr Medvedev said the textile industry is not in a good state today and there is a need to look at what measures can be taken to develop the sector, taking into account the possibilities the state and private business can offer today.
The President also visited an exhibition, “Ivanovo Region’s Economic Potential”. He paid particular attention to the question of expanding the local airport and also showed interest in a project bringing together the region’s most attractive old towns to form what has been dubbed the ‘Little Golden Ring’.
