“You did an excellent job of solving theoretical and practical problems, doing better than strong, eminent opponents from many other countries around the world,” reads President Medvedev’s telegram. “Your talent and perseverance has earned you three gold medals and two silver medals. And of course, this speaks to the high level of work by your mentors. You commendably defended the honour of our nation at a prestigious international competition, not only demonstrating a solid knowledge of physics, but also presenting original solutions for some very difficult problems. Your fantastic victory serves as more proof of Russia’s high level of education and the excellent potential of our youth.”
The International Physics Olympiad was held July 11 through 18, 2009 in the city of Merida, Mexico, with participants from 80 countries. All five members of Russia’s team returned home with awards.
