Following the talks which took place during the President of Ecuador's official visit to Russia, Dmitry Medvedev and Rafael Correa signed a Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ecuador.
The document's main sections concern general principles governing bilateral relations, the countries' economic, trade and financial partnership, cooperation in political, security and environmental issues, as well as in education, science, technology, culture, sport and tourism.
The Declaration expresses the parties' determination to strengthen their political dialogue at various levels and promote UN cooperation with regional organisations. The parties strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and expressed their willingness to cooperate in countering transnational organised crime, drug trafficking and other threats and challenges to international security.
The part of the Declaration devoted to economic partnership confirms the parties' intention to develop trade and financial relations, diversify their bilateral partnership, increase their trade, and promote joint initiatives to develop industrial and technical cooperation.
Developments foreseen in the cultural and educational spheres include the expansion of contacts between the peoples, universities, academies of science, youth and sports organisations, and the media of the two countries.
