Before the start of a special meeting following the terrorist attacks in the Moscow metro. The meeting’s participants observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

The President said that transport security must be addressed at the national level rather than applying a piecemeal approach to specific types of transport or particular cities. Unfortunately, these types of terrorist attacks are well-planned actions aimed at causing maximum casualties and destabilizing the country and society, Mr Medvedev said.

The President also said that the authorities would continue their efforts to suppress terrorism and the fight against terrorism would continue. This is the main policy line that the country’s law enforcement and security services must follow.

The President instructed the heads of Russia’s law enforcement agencies to keep the investigation into the attacks under their constant supervision and report on developments.

The Government has been told to provide any necessary aid to all of the victims.

Mr Medvedev also gave an instruction to tighten security measures throughout Russia’s transport system.
