The message reads, in part:
“This ancient holiday, revered by Jews the world over, symbolises spiritual cleansing and self-improvement, respect for religious commandments and traditions based on love for one’s neighbours and a sincere desire to give help and support to those in need.
Jews in Russia have always been characterised by their religious tolerance and rejection of violence, their respect for such values as good relations with one’s neighbours, trust and mutual understanding.
I am convinced that the Russian Jewish community will continue making a significant contribution to strengthening inter-faith and inter-ethnic accord in this country and to reinforcing the age-long friendship between its peoples.”
