The President said in particular, in his message:

“Established back in 1714, the renowned Kunstkamera is one of Russia’s oldest and most interesting museums. The tireless, truly dedicated efforts of famous Russian researchers and scholars and the painstaking and substantial work carried out by generations of museum workers have made it possible to create and care for unique ethnographic, archaeological and anthropological collections that reflect the wealth and diversity of cultures on every continent.

It is pleasing to see that the museum’s current team is building on their predecessors’ professional traditions. The museum organises important educational projects, including projects aimed at children and young people. Much is being done to develop fruitful cooperation with prominent scientific centres abroad.”

The Russian Academy of Sciences’ Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) is one of the world’s oldest and biggest ethnographic museums. Its origins date back to Russia’s first national public museum, the Kunstkamera, which was founded by Peter the Great in 1714. The museum’s collection counts around 1.2 million exhibits and reflects the diversity of cultures from all around the world. The museum is included on the state list of Russia’s especially valuable cultural heritage sites and is visited by more than half a million people every year.
