Mr Bush congratulated Mr Medvedev on his inauguration and wished him success in his high office. Both leaders expressed their desire to work closely together and continue the top-level constructive dialogue that has played a leading part in Russian-U.S. relations over these last years. The two Presidents noted the good basis the recent Sochi Declaration on the strategic framework for Russian-American relations provides for their work together.
Mr Medvedev and Mr Bush discussed current bilateral and international issues and agreed to maintain regular contact, including with regard to preparations for the upcoming G8 summit in Japan.
The conversation was the United States’ initiative.
