Sangtuda-1 is one of the largest Russian-Tajikistani cooperation projects undertaken in recent years. An intergovernmental agreement on building the power station was signed in October 2004.
The Presidents also visited a Russian space object tracking station. The station is designed to automatically detect space objects at altitudes ranging from 2,000 to 40,000 km, collect data on them, and transmit the processed results to command centres. The facility is fully automated and can function without operators, supplying information on known and newly detected objects in space.
