Continued steps to build up the Russian-German strategic partnership in the context of the global financial crisis were the main subject on the agenda.
Mr Medvedev and Ms Merkel discussed in particular the possibility of Russian private investment in German electronics company Infineon Technologies AG, the acquisition by a private Russian investor of bankrupt dockyards on Germany’s Baltic coast, and a bid by international company Magna and Russia’s Sberbank to acquire Germany’s Opel.
Prospects for Russian-German cooperation in the energy sector, including in the Nord Stream project, were also discussed at the talks.
Mr Medvedev and Ms Merkel gave a joint news conference following the talks.
