August 27, 2009
14:00

The telegram reads, in part:

“A master of national literature, a worthy individual and a true Russian citizen has left us. His multifaceted talent was clearly visible in well-known children's verses and poems with which entire generations grew up, and in the majestic lines of the national anthem.

Sergei Vladimirovich always lived in light of the interests of his Motherland, selflessly served and believed in it. He wanted to work for people who were actively engaged in social activities. His personality and creative endeavours always aroused respect and inspired authority.

Sergei Vladimirovich Mikhalkov will forever remain in our memories and the hearts of his loving family, friends and millions of our citizens.”

Sergei Mikhalkov was a poet, a master of Russian children's literature, social activist, and author of the Soviet and modern Russian national anthems. He died today in Moscow at the age of 96.
