Mr Tsipras expressed his profound condolences following the tragic death of Russia’s ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov in a terrorist attack and the crash of a Tu-154 plane in the Black Sea.
The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation results for 2016, assessing highly, in particular, the organisation of a major project, a cross-cultural year between Russia and Greece. They outlined key areas for further development in bilateral relations, above all in trade and the economy, energy and the humanitarian sector, including the organisation of reciprocal tourism years in 2017 and 2018.
A number of international issues, including the situation in Syria and settlement in Cyprus were also discussed.
Mr Putin and Mr Tsipras also exchanged New Year’s wishes.
