The President said, in particular, in his message:
“The Assembly holds an important place on the system of multilateral relations within the CIS and plays an active part in multifaceted international cooperation as an associated member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly’s work is very important and useful. The model laws it drafts help to make national legislation more effective and expand possibilities for integration cooperation in economic, social, humanitarian and other areas.
The Assembly makes a substantial direct contribution to strengthening international security. The CIS member countries’ coordinated legislative approaches give us the conditions needed for intensifying collective efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, trans-border crime, and corruption.
I am sure that today’s plenary meeting will be substantive and productive, will outline new directions for cooperation between our countries’ parliamentarians, and further reinforce the Assembly’s authority.”
