Greetings on the opening of the national commemorative event Memory Watch 2017

Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to all taking part in the official opening of the national commemorative event Memory Watch 2017, which this year is starting in Kaliningrad.

The President said, in particular, in his message:

“The Russian Search Movement is a large-scale national project that brings together more than 40,000 people around the country now. At its heart is the noble and important moral aim of preserving the truth about the Great Patriotic War, encouraging deeper study of our military history, and identifying the names and fates of soldiers and officers who defended their country, its freedom and independence.

It is good to see that your movement gives such attention to young people and preparing the next generation. By getting schoolchildren and students involved in practical work in the field, you nurture like-minded people who share your lofty moral values, take pride in their country and forebears and in their achievements in battle or labour, and strive to make a personal contribution to immortalising the memory of fallen Soviet soldiers.

I thank you and your comrades for your involvement, sense of purpose, and devotion to your cause.”
