Vladimir Putin will visit China on September 3–5 to take part in the BRICS summit

Vladimir Putin will visit the People’s Republic of China on September 3–5 to take part in the 9th BRICS summit.

Announcement, September 3 − 5, 2017

The leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will discuss the group’s current state and development prospects and outline the next steps to strengthen their strategic partnership, including in priority areas such as trade and investment, politics and security, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation. They will exchange views on the work of the key BRICS Background information BRICS instruments – the New Development Bank, and the Contingent Reserve Arrangement.

They will also examine current issues on the global agenda, including the situation in the global economy and finances. They will give their attention too to the situation in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula and the fight against international terrorism.

The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of a Declaration and an Action Plan that set out the priorities for the five countries’ work over the coming period.

In line with tradition at the summit, the programme will also feature a meeting of the BRICS leaders with the heads of the BRICS Business Council and outreach meetings with leaders of developing countries invited to the summit. The leaders of Guinea, Egypt, Mexico, Tajikistan and Thailand will take part.

Mr Putin will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with heads of state and government taking part in the summit.
