The two leaders had a substantial exchange of opinions on the aggravated situation on the Korean Peninsula, condemning the nuclear test conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 3, 2017, as it undermines the global non-proliferation regime, violates UN Security Council resolutions and norms of international law and poses a real threat to regional peace and stability.
Vladimir Putin said the international community should not give way to emotions, but rather to keep its composure and act reasonably, and he also emphasised that a comprehensive solution to the nuclear and other issues on the Korean peninsula can be reached through political and diplomatic methods only.
Vladimir Putin and Shinzo Abe agreed to continue their dialogue on the issue during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, on September 7.
