The President answered questions from the audience on developing Russian-American relations, in particular in the education sector, the global financial crisis, Iran’s nuclear programme, Russia’s relations with Georgia, Belarus and Ukraine, the role of the UN, and his own plans for the future.
Mr Medvedev spent an hour with the university’s students and faculty and answered 15 questions. Most of the students tried to put their questions to the President in Russian.
Before the meeting began, Mr Medvedev visited the university’s Russian Room, where a modern Russian literature class was underway.
The University of Pittsburgh, founded in 1787, is one of the United States’ oldest and it has a centre for Russian and Eastern European Studies.
