The discussion focused on topical matters of developing Russia–Finland relations, including cooperation in trade, the economy, as well as cultural and humanitarian projects.
During the exchange of opinions on the international and regional agenda, Vladimir Putin informed Sauli Niinisto of Russia’s initiative to establish a UN mission to assist in protecting members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in southeastern Ukraine.
The presidents also discussed matters pertaining to strengthening stability and security in the Baltic as well as cooperation in the Arctic during Finland’s Chairmanship at the Arctic Council in 2017–2019.
