The first meeting between Dmitry Medvedev and the EU leaders – President of the European Council and the Slovenian Presidency of the EU Janez Jansa, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana – had a working lunch in one of the restaurants of Khanty-Mansiysk.
During the informal discussion EU representatives expressed great interest in the initiative that the President of Russia made in Berlin concerning a new treaty on European security. Dmitry Medvedev spoke about his vision of what the treaty could consist in and his overall assessment of the situation in this sphere.
The President of Russia and the EU leaders also touched on issues related to European integration and discussed in detail key issues on the international agenda and international crises. They also discussed the current situation in the global economy, in the international financial system.
After the working lunch, Dmitry Medvedev and other summit participants from the highest levels of the Russian and EU delegations attended a concert in honour of the summit’s participants and guests, held in the concert hall of the Arts Centre for Gifted Children of the North.
