The executive order was issued in order to promote sustainable technological development and to modernise key sectors of the national economy.
The executive order gives instructions to the Government of the Russian Federation, in particular: to draft a Federal law on the Kurchatov Institute and bring it before the State Duma within a six month period, to approve a list of unique nuclear-physical installations necessary for the Institute to carry out its work, and to structure the Institute’s funding from the federal budget resources.
The executive order also specifies three other research facilities which are to participate in the pilot project: the B.P. Konstantinov Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, the Institute of High Energy Physics (Protvino, Moscow Region), and the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics (Moscow).
