At the beginning of the meeting the President of Russia declared that cooperation between Russia and the USA has reached a new level and bilateral relations have recently taken on new momentum.
Mr Medvedev noted that there is already a Russian-American commission for cooperation that functions under the auspices of the presidents of the two countries [U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission]. The decision to establish it was taken in summer 2009 at a meeting between President Medvedev and U.S. President Barack Obama.
According to Dmitry Medvedev, recent events – the G20 summit in Pittsburgh, the United Nations General Assembly in New York – have demonstrated a joint desire for finding answers to the most urgent and difficult questions, including those related to the Middle East settlement, Iran and North Korea.
