Mr Medvedev passed on his best wishes during a telephone conversation with the Bolivian president.
During their brief conversation, the two leaders discussed implementation of the agreements reached during Mr Morales’ first visit to Russia at the end of February 2009.
Both presidents said they were happy with the successful efforts made by the Russian and Bolivian governments to develop bilateral cooperation.
Earlier, Mr Medvedev sent Mr Morales a message of congratulations, in which he said, in particular:
“You are well known in Russia as a prominent Latin American politician and statesman. Since you took office as president Bolivia has successfully undertaken the difficult road of transformation and has strengthened its influence on the international stage.
We highly value your contribution to activating Russian-Bolivian relations. I have warm recollections of our meeting in Moscow in February this year. We succeeded in taking our bilateral dialogue to a new level and outlining promising areas for practical cooperation, including hydrocarbon production and transportation, the mining industry, and agriculture. I am sure that continued expansion of effective political, economic and humanitarian cooperation is in our peoples’ interests.
We are ready to intensify our coordination within international and regional organisations, including integration organisations such as MERCOSUR and ALBA.
We follow and feel sincere support for Latin America’s efforts to develop influential and strong multilateral cooperation.”
