The message reads, in part:
“Our country has the largest forest resources in the world. Such matters as conservation and rational use of this property are rightfully among the Government’s most significant priorities.
Today, those working in this field face serious challenges, primarily attracting investment, modernising existing facilities and setting up new timber yards. It is important to develop modern approaches in sparing the resources and to protect the environment through the introduction of advanced environmentally friendly technology, constructive management decisions, and improvement of legislation. A serious step towards this goal was the law on the mandatory restoration of forestland adopted this year. It has tightened control over the commercial turnover of timber, and requires more effective measures to improve the fire protection system.
I would like to note that Russia’s forestry industries have always employed specialists with the highest qualifications who sincerely love and know their job. I am confident that competence, experience, and reliance on the wonderful traditions of your predecessors will continue to help you in your hard, but noble work.”
